I don't get all this smacktalk about the Coalition (CVA is on the same side as the coalition and not the alliance, right?) being so bad at fleet combat. I just don't get it. We all learn all the time.
Just the other day I was talking to one of CVA's fleet commanders concerning ways to fit a ship for fleet combat - and I learned a few things, I'd like to share. I have just finished typing the conversation into this page (I really think Microsoft should invent some function to copy text from one place to another, but maybe that's just me).
My CVA Fleet commander said he didn't want his name in this post, so I have changed his sig to "CVA" - I guess it has something to do with him not wanting to have it become known how experienced he is at fleet fights so he'll be primary at all times.
So here's the discussion I'd like to share:
Octavinus: I really dont like the Amarr ships - they're so limited in the ways you can set them up.
CVA: Then fly something else.
Octavinus: I can't - I'm Amarr.
CVA: Just train the other race's ships.
Octavinus: Can you do that?
CVA: Yes
Octavinus: As an Amarr?
CVA: Yes
Octavinus: And it's legal?
CVA: Yes
Octavinus: Won't CCP get you banned for doing it?
CVA: No
Octavinus: You won't even get a warning?
CVA: No
Octavinus: Wow. So if I wanted to I could train for Gallente battleships and use those as missile boats?
CVA: Yes. Don't think it would be a good idea though.
Octavinus: Hmm. But the Amarr ships are still very limited aren't they? I mean lasers only and all.
CVA: Just stick on some autocannon if you want.
Octavinus: You can do that as well?
CVA: Yes.
Octavinus: Got to try that. Thanks a lot.
And if you think the learning stopped there, you're wrong - as the story goes on a bit:
I then proceeded to fit small autocannon to my duramaller and went out into 0.0 Providence to hunt me some pirates. Unfortunaltely Mr CVA had not mentioned that autocannon use ammunition so the following fight was somewhat onesided. And now CCP won't reimburse me claiming it was my own fault. How can it be my fault? Honestly, CCP must really love these BoB people we're supposed to be fighting.
So now, I'm back in high sec empire mining for another maller - but this time I'll remember to stick some crystals in the cargohold to complete my new and improved autocannon design. So, once I have that ready I can only say this:
BoB beware, Octavinus is coming.
PS. To those who have posted in this thread without using simple smack - respect to you. It has been a very entertaining read, even if I havn't been able to attend the events.
